Seeking Mechanic (close to or near Raleigh NC) To Replace Exhaust Manifold

$

Hello,

Does anyone have a recommendation where I can take my 2001 Sequoia to replace the exhaust manifold? I believe I have the "ticking" problem indicating pinhole cracks in the manifold, and would like to address this.

Couple of shops I asked around is quoting 15 hours of labor plus parts.

I wouldn't mind installing JBA Shorty headers, as there's a JBA retailer in Raleigh.

Can anyone help with recommendations, or indicate places to avoid?

Thanks.

2007 tundra with 118k miles in excellent condition and started seeing some rust stains with lifting of the Line-X on both sides of the bolt in all 4 places. Does any one know if Toyota covers this under warranty or if a TSB exists. Thanks.

Overheating ruined my engine

I'll try to keep it short. I'm only posting as a warning to other gen-1 owners.

About a year ago my lower trans cooler fittings on the denso radiator corroded and gave me the classic strawberry milkshake syndrome. I replaced the radiator with a lifetime warrant Silla brand. I did not use the cooler fittings but rather installed a separate trans oil cooler. A few months ago my transmission failed and I bought a Toyota remanufactured unit. All was well until last week.

Driving to work on the interstate the truck began downshifting to maintain speed on a long up grade. At the top I disconnected the cruise and it seemed to be normal again. I about a mile a began losing power and the engine was not responding. I looked down to see the temp gauge pegged full hot and I immediate shut it down and coasted to a stop. Then the steam started coming out of the grill. Opening the hood I saw a jet of steam and coolant gushing out of a 4" long crack in the top plastic radiator tank.

After it cooled down as I was waiting for a tow, I tried cranking the engine. It sounded like an engine being cranked with all the plugs out.

I later confirmed compression on the left bank was 135, 35, 0, 45. I didn't bother to check the other side.

1. Don't buy a cheap lifetime Chinese radiator. Denso may not last more than 15 years but if you don't get the radiator trans cooler option it may last a lot longer.

2. Your truck has not got a warning system for overheating or low oil pressure that I can find. Unlike old American cast iron engines if you overheat it you lose it. What we once derided as "Idiot Lights" would have saved my engine. I didn't see that tiny needle drifting into the "Destroy" zone, and efficient air flows in the engine compartment force the steam under the vehicle. Even the owners manual mentions that if you overheat to the point of steam discharge it's probably too late.

3. Check your other vehicles warning systems. I've got a Lexus LS and SC 430. Neither gives an overheat warning other than a gauge needle. I consider this to be totally inadequate and will add a temp warning system.

Trying not to rant but I'm depressed and feel I was robbed by some thoughtless engineering.

Help me build a write up for swapping out Limited AHC/Air bags.

Looks like I have to do it. There is next to no information available regarding what you'll need to buy to do the swap or how to do it safely. At least not in one place, and I have searched sporadically, 3 hours at a time for over a month and am dry.

I'm not the best mechanical guy for the job but I can help the Lehman.

Before I can attempt mine, I'm trying to figure out a few things.

1: wether land cruiser 100 springs have a chance of bringing me above 3 inches of lift. Pic included below. If they might be more than 2 I will want to find a set of natural sequoia springs to have on hand. The air susp is never going back.

2: What shocks to buy. Any difference in shock mount locations between SR5 and Limited? Don't think so.. And for a 2 inch rear lift should I be buying Land cruiser 100 boxed (5100 series) shocks?

3: Coil spring insulator and spring perch's. Parts are totally a mystery. I have found very inconclusive evidence about what to specifically buy. I am a dummy and don't know what to do here. (At least not dumb enough to think I'm not a dummy and to just try it.) Do I need to go to the dealership just to buy the SR5's spring insulator? And how about for the bottom seat?

Thank you, hopefully I can get just enough help to solve this for myself and leave a legible paper trail for others to help themselves. These limited's AHC are just going to continue to failing on people who are willing to pay less and less to fix it over time. This is a much needed piece of public info.

Here's my old 4runner, and while I love my Sequoia, I miss the mass amount of information available about modding. TacticalSR5's Build *TheWhitePearl* - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum

problems after leveling 2005 crewcab limited

Hello all. Well after 10 years, 376,00 miles and zero problems I passed my 05 tundra down to my 17 year old. The first thing he has done is a 3/1 leveling kit and bigger tires. I must admit truck looks great but....now when braking it appears ABS system is kicking in just below 10 mph. The guy who installed has tried everything he knows including the ZPC. He thinks it is coming from a defective yaw sensor. My question is could this be correct? It happens everytime we brake. No issues going around exit ramps etc.
No warning lights illuminated. I cannot find the yaw sensor under the center console or under the passenger seat. I do see the decal sensor under the passenger seat. Please help!

Traction Control/Body Roll

$

At nearly full crank right (on a 360 turn @ 30 mph), my truck feels like there's more roll than usual and then my traction control light starts going off, until I slow down a few mph. Also, it feels like my left front brake is applying, but I'm not on the brakes with my foot.

This happened again yesterday in a 45ish degree gradual turn. I was doing about 50 mph (slower than I've gone in recent past without any problems), but the same thing happened with the body roll and traction control lights flashing like crazy (again, the front left brakes applying was felt here). I had to slow down to about 40 to get the lights to stop flashing.

Took it to my local suspension, etc shop and they think the culprit may just be that my tire pressure was too high. Which would be great, except I've been running my pressures higher and lower over the past 6+ months with my current tires without any issues until now.

The guy said all my linkages were tight and properly lubed, so that was at least good news.

Any of you Tundra gurus know what's going on? So far my solutions appear to be tire pressures or possibly an ABS Wheel Sensor (since there the left front braking issue).

Thanks in advance.

Rack for cab. DIY & soft topper

Hey guys I am thinking about doing a DIY build for a cab rack so I can put gas cans on top and dirtbikes in the back. Anyone done this before?

Questions I had were:

1. I dont have racks on my cab right now so ideas of how to mount would be awesome.

2. Size, component options ex: ax holder

3. Also has anyone used or made one of those foldable soft toppers for the bed?? Id like to get/make one of those as well.

Thanks love this forum!!

I have 5100's in the front but haven't found anything but 4600's available for the land cruiser. And everyone on here seems to have 4600's snapping on them.

I'm feeling defeated, having called multiple local businesses including 4 wheel parts.

I am told the rancho 9000's are good, but can't source them or determine which one to buy.

Right now I am wondering if there is any sin in buying monroe oe spectrum shocks?

Hello all, been reading the site for a while now, gained some good insight and really helped me choose the 06 model vs some < 04.

I found a very clean 06, 130k miles all service records done at the original dealer and sold to me from same!!

Only issue I have is some modest corrosion on suspension parts, mounts and frame welds, but clearly my truck was driven in the salted snow roads of the Tennessee mountains, overall, I'm very happy with the truck and really proud of the recent improvements.

I studied hard on what route to go for bigger tires, decided on the Bilstein 5100 option, went with max height setting (as I sometimes use a winch mounted fwd) I'm now gonna do 1" rough country blocks on the rear to help with even ride while towing.

Some lessons learned on my stock shock change out:
- use lots of PB blaster days ahead of the install, I had to cut/grind off 3 of 4 shocks.
- disconnect the lower A-arm sway bar links to aid in installing the front shocks.....oh man I wish I would have seen that bit of info early into my job!!
- use jack stands further back for supporting the front axles, I moved mine to the frame, just near the transfer case and it allowed me to use a floor jack to control the A-arms better (to allow you to pass the head of the bottom shock bolt under the drive axle and boot come together)

I actually gained 3-1/4" with my front shock Bilstein install (springs and shocks were all stock), I used the top ring notch on the new 5100's and added a new strut insulator bushing at the the top of the spring cap (0only 1/4" thick, so i cant imagine it really affecting the height that much), but the ride is great, so no complaints here.

Today I finally got the tires I wanted, BFG-K/O 2's 275/70/17's, no rubbing at all, love the look, need to try it out in some slop to see how it does.

Now I want a rear locker, some well placed LED lighting and a chance to use that 4WD!!

Hope my before and after pics show up.

Light Racing adjustable UCA's and tire fitment

$

I drive an 06 Doublecab 4x4 limited (with the stock 17" limited wheels). I plan to install the toytec "boss" lift with light racing UCA's soon but am trying to figure out the largest tire size I can run on these wheels without rubbing.

I know there are threads on this but the reason I am asking is because Light Racing claims their UCA's allow for movement of the wheel forward and backwards in the wheel well, which could allow for a larger tire (possibly avoid the pinch weld rub). I plan to run 1.25" spidertrax spacers to avoid the frame rub that I had on my old 01 tundra with 285/75r16's.

If anyone out there runs these adjustable UCA's and has been able to run a larger tire due to the forward adjustment in the wheel well, please let me know! I dont do any hardcore wheeling but I dont want to rub at full lock or driving down a trail or field.

Thanks for the information!

I know this video shows a 2007 tundra 2nd gen but it has the 4.7L 2UZ-FE engine and it lasted a million miles on this truck down in Louisiana with little issue. Makes me feel good about the 4.7L in my 1st gen 2006 DC.
